Poland stands for the deployment of the UN peacekeeping mission in Donbas because it is important for the security of the country. Jacek Czaputowicz, the Foreign Minister of Poland claimed this during the briefing at the UN Security Council as PAP reported.
Talking about Ukraine, Czaputowicz noted that it would be good if UN also participated in the settlement of the Donbas Conflict, sending the UN Czaputowicz there.
‘It is difficult to reach the agreement on this issue but the work continues. Poland is one of the most active countries in this region because the situation in Ukraine is very important for the security of our country also because of the refugees’ inflow from there’, Czaputowicz said.
The minister noted that Poland assigns high priority to the observance of the sovereignty principle and territorial integrity, remembering the actions of Russia beyond the principles of the international law, such as annexation of Crimea and support of the militants in Donbas.
Previously Vladimir Putin instructed the Russian Foreign Ministry to introduce the draft resolution to the UN Security Council, as he believes such a mission could help resolve the conflict. Ukraine phrased its opinion on the subject, saying that it objects to having peacekeepers from Russia participating in the UN mission.
Ukraine also insists that the peacekeeping mission must be deployed on all occupied territories, including the Russian border. Russia objects to this, saying that it contradicts the Minsk agreements, and insisting that the peacekeepers are needed solely to guard the SMM OSCE observers and be present on the contact line.
As it was reported earlier Kurt Volker, the US Special Envoy to Ukraine and Vladislav Surkov, the Counselor of Russian president discussed all topical issues on the settlement of the Donbas conflict, including the issue of the UN peacekeepers in Belgrade on November 13.
Earlier, Surkov claimed in the result of the meeting with Volker that the US proposed addendum to the Russian draft resolution on the UN mission in Donbas. Particularly, the American side offered to add 29 points to the draft resolution but Russia accepted only 3 of them.
Later Stepan Poltorak, the Defense Minister of Ukraine claimed that Russian participation in the UN peacekeeping mission in Donbas is excluded during his his meeting with his Canadian colleague Harjit Sajjan.
