President Aliev calls to arms as hostilities with Armenia resumed last weekend

Azerbaijani government ordered a partial mobilization due to the worsening situation on the contact line in Nagorno-Karabakh conflict zone. Ilham Aliev, the president of Azerbaijan signed the respective decree, RIA Novosti reports.

The document takes effect on the day it was signed. 

Recently, martial law was introduced in Azerbaijan, due to the complicated miltary situation.

Earlier, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres urged Yerevan and Baku to immediately stop military actions in Nagorno-Karabakh, and claimed his intentions to talk with leaders of both countries. This is mentioned in the statement released on the UN official website.

"The Secretary-General is extremely concerned over the fresh resumption of hostilities along the line of contact in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict zone. He condemns the use of force and regrets the loss of life and the toll on the civilian population. The Secretary-General strongly calls on the sides to immediately stop fighting, de-escalate tensions and return to meaningful negotiations without delay. He will be speaking to both the President of Azerbaijan and the Prime Minister of Armenia", reads the statement, released by Stephane Dujarric, Spokesman of the Secretary-General.
