The Day of Ukraine's military volunteer will be marked nation-wide every March 14; the respective bill was supported by 231 MPs at today’s plenary session.
‘To honor courage and heroism of protectors of Ukraine’s sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity… the Parliament rules to set the Day of Ukrainian volunteer, which is to be marked annually on March 14,’ the document reads.
Hundreds of common Ukrainians have joined the troops voluntarily since the very beginning of Ukraine-Russia conflict, which kicked off in early spring 2014, when Russian troops invaded and captured Crimea and later came to fight the Ukrainian army in Donbas. Volunteer battalions, most of them under the aegis of Ukraine's interior ministry, played huge part in the early stages of the conflict. Currently, many volunteers continue to serve with the troops.
