Over 35,000 Russian troops remain in Donbas

Interior Ministry voices out current composition of Russian and militant forces holding positions in eastern Ukraine

As of November 2017, there are more than 35,500 armed militants in Donbas – both Russian regular troops and local volunteers who joined the illegal armed formations there. Arsen Avakov, Ukraine’s minister for internal affairs said that during the security forum in Kyiv.

‘The overall staff size of the 1st and the 2nd Army Corpses of Russia’s Eighth Army is 35.5 thousand fighters; they have at their disposal 478 tanks, 848 armored personnel carriers, approximately 750 artillery units and mortars, 208 multiple missile launchers, 363 anti-tank weapons, 419 anti-air defense weapons,’ the official said.     

According to him, the HQ of these armed groups is based on that of the Eighth Army of the Russian Federation, located in Novocherkassk (Russia).
