Since the Joint Forces Operation began in the east of Ukraine on April 30, 2018, the Armed Forces of Ukraine returned under its control 15 sq. km. of territory, as the United Force Commander, Lieutenant-General Serhiy Nayev, said at the press conference, Interfax-Ukraine reports.
“Within the stabilization activities since the operation began we managed to provide and maintain a complete control over the contact line, an appropriate security and stability level in all the districts. The establishment of a security area in Volnovakha, Horlivka, Sievierodonetsk and Svitlodarsk sectors helped to take around 15 sq. km. of Ukraine’s territory under control, including the populated areas,” he said.
Nayev reminded that over this time Pivdenne (Donetsk region) and Zolote-4 (Luhansk region) were returned under Ukraine’s control.
“People’s life began to return to normal, they returned in the Ukrainian legal boundaries, their legal rights are protected,” Nayev noted.
Joint Forces Commander stressed that during this time the Ukrainian military did not violate Minsk Agreements and obligated ceasefire since July 1.
“The Armed Forces of Ukraine are just responding to the provocations of Russian occupation troops, who are blatantly neglecting them,” Nayev concluded.
Reportedly, with the beginning of the JFO the militants changed their tactics, increased the number of the artillery attacks and activated the operation of the sabotage and reconnaissance forces.
The Joint Forces Operation is a reformatting of the Anti-terrorist Operation (ATO) with the administration transferred to Ukraine’s Armed Forces Joint Operation Headquarters.
The JFO started at 2 pm on April 30, 2018.
