OSCE spots funeral vans cross Ukraine-Russia border

The overall number of border crossings by persons increased, among them 53 persons in military-style outfits

During the reporting period, the Observer Teams observed two funeral vans crossing the border through the Donetsk border crossing point. The first van crossed into Ukraine on 19 July at 11:55 hrs. Only the driver of the vehicle was observed. The OSCE Observer Mission at Russian Checkpoints Hukovo and Donetsk reported that in their weekly update based on information as of 25 July 2017.

The second funeral van crossed into Ukraine on 25 July at 06:30 and passed back to the Russian Federation at 06:50 hrs on the same day. The van bore the inscription “Ritual Service Charon” (in Russian language). In all cases, the observer teams could not ascertain whether there was a coffin on board or not.

The number of persons in military-style outfits crossing the border in both directions was 53 this week at both Border Crossing Points compared to 46 last week; 33 of them crossed into the Russian Federation, 20 into Ukraine.

The observers also report of the increase of number of tanker trucks from 43 to 62.

On 19 July at 12:03 hrs, the Hukovo OSCE observation team observed a helicopter (Mi8/17) flying at low altitude along the border, within the Russian Federation territory. The oberserver team had visual contact with the helicopter for about 1 minute.
