The number of OSCE SMM observers in Ukraine will grow to 800 people. Alexander Hug, the First Deputy Head of the mission, said this in his commentary for Ukrinform news agency.
‘Currently, we’ve got 665 observers, 581 of which work in eastern Ukraine. We plan to enhance the staff, so that the overall number would reach 800 people, about 700 of which would work in Donbas,’ he said.
Hug added that such enhancement will work only if the observers enjoy access to all areas of the combat zone in eastern Ukraine. ‘Opening monitoring bases in the areas not controlled by Ukrainian authorities would be very instrumental,’ he said.
