OSCE reports casualties during crossing of demarcation line in Donbas

The organization notes that the situation in eastern Ukraine is still unstable

Chairman of Special Monitoring Mission of the OSCE in Ukraine (OSCE SMM) Ertugrul Apakan stated that 16 people died from natural causes and 20 people died in the result of the combat actions. This happened during the crossing of the demarcation line in Donbas since the beginning of the winter, as OSCE reported.

“The incidence with mines and unexploded ordnance, combined with a fluctuating number of ceasefire violations, already claiming 20 civilian casualties this year. Moreover, he noted that 16 mostly elderly people crossing the contact line had died of natural causes since the beginning of winter,” the message said.

He stated that the situation in eastern Ukraine is still unstable.

Apakan urged to the complete observing of the ceasefire regime and withdrawal of the heavy weaponry.

OSCE SMM Head said that people will remain in the spotlight for the OSCE, especially the most vulnerable populations.

As we reported the OSCE Council decided to renew the mandate of the Special Monitoring Mission to Ukraine (SMM) by another year.

Earlier the drone of the OSCE mission spotted four jet military airplanes above the village of Lastochkine.
