A special OSCE monitoring mission reports on mortar shelling near the advanced observer base in Popasna. This is stated in the daily report of the SMM OSCE.
"On the evening of February 23, being on the advanced patrol base of the SMM, located on the northern outskirts of Popasna (controlled by the government, 69 km west of Luhansk), observers heard long-term violations of the cease-fire regime. About 21:14, the SMM team heard 10 explosions estimated as 120-mm mortar rounds about 500 m to the north. The Mission staff (6 observers, paramedic and interpreter) immediately moved to a shelter in a basement, and stayed there for about 15 minutes," said in a statement.
According to the information, on Saturday, February 24, the SMM observers left the base and returned to the SMM patrol center in Severodonetsk.
It is noted that the patrol returned to the base in Popasna on February 22, 2018 after it was temporarily relocated on December 19, 2017 because of the explosions.
On February 3, the OSCE patrol got under fire in the Donbas territory. Five patrolmen stood between the armored vehicles of the SMM, they heard 3 bullets from west to east flying over their heads whistling and saw one of the bullets hit the target 10-15 meters east of them. The mission patrol immediately left the area.
