OSCE recorded over 400,000 ceasefire violations in 2017

Compared to 2016, the number of violations increased by 80,000

The OSCE SMM to Ukraine recorded 401,366 cease-fire violations in Donbas in 2017, as Alexander Hug, the Principal Deputy Chief Monitor of the OSCE SMM to Ukraine, said in a briefing today.

The number of violations - 401,366 – is higher than the one in 2016, which estimated 320,130. Moreover, in 2017, the mission reported 4,065 instances of weapon violations on withdrawal lines, while in 2016, the number was 3,099.

The number of instances of restricting the movement of the OSCE observers also increased (from 1,950 in 2016 to 2,422 in 2017).

Hug also noted that starting Dec. 28, over 500 cease-fire violations were reported in Donbas daily.
