The representatives of “Donetsk People’s Republic” (DPR) Denis Pushilin and “Luhansk People’s Republic” (LPR) Leonid Pasechnik agreed on the direct negotiations with Kyiv on the plan proposed by Head of Political Council of Party “Opposition platform – For life” Viktor Medvedchuk, facilitated by the European partners on settlement of Donbas Conflict.
Pasechnik and Pushilin appealed to the European states in their statements, first of all to Chancellor of Germany and President of France Emmanuel Macron, who are the guarantors of the Minks Agreements, to support their intentions and persuade Kyiv to hold direct negotiations on Medvedchuk’s plan.
“Donbas consistently stands for the continuation of the negotiations in Minsk; we strongly support the initiative of the Ukrainian opposition politicians, which aims for the intensification of the negotiations. We express the readiness for the direct dialogue with Kyiv. Consequently, we express the readiness to achieve peace in Ukraine and Donbas,” Pushilin stated.
As we reported earlier, Viktor Medvedchuk, the politician and the head of 'Ukrainsky Vybir' (Ukrainian Choice) political party faces prosecution in Ukraine. Ukraine’s Prosecutor General's Office opened the case against him in state treason and encroachment on the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine. The basis for the criminal proceeding is an application of the Ukrainian MP from the People’s Front political party. The criminal case opened against the politician for his proposals on settlement of the military conflict in Donbas by granting the region with autonomy and capturing that in the Constitution of Ukraine. Medvedchuk voiced the proposals at the All-Ukrainian Congress of the party on January 29.
Members of the European Parliament condemned the criminal proceeding against Viktor Medvedchuk, the representative of the "Opposition Platform - For Life" political party.
