The militant-occupied areas of Donetsk region might return to Ukraine – but only based on 'confederate association principle'. Aleksandr Zakharchenko, the leader of pro-Russian mercenaries in Donetsk region, said this as quoted by Izvestiya.

Zakharchenko also demanded a government change in Kyiv.

‘The war will sooner or later end with negotiations on further living along with Ukraine; you can’t ignore or cancel geography,’ the militant leader said.

Previously, the U.S. urged Russia to put more impact on pro-Kremlin armed mercenaries in Donbas to improve the security conditions in the region and eventually bring peace to the combat area in eastern Ukraine.
