The talks of the advisers of the Normandy Format on the settlement of the Donbas Conflict on May 26 were very difficult due to the hard-line stances of the sides as RBK-Ukraine reported citing Adviser of the President’s Office Head Mykhailo Podolyak.
“Very tough opinion exchange took place. No matter how the Russian side tried to contradict the position of the international society, international organizations, countries-mediators; all the same, the simple truth is that the sides of this conflict are Ukraine and Russia,” Podolyak said.
According to him, it is principally important for Ukraine that the settlement in Donbas is discussed by the sides that can be responsible for their promises, in other words, Ukraine and Russia with the mediation of Germany and France. The Russian side tried to dispute this position during the meeting. That is why, there are no decisions yet.
Meanwhile, the talks will continue in the Normandy Format and in the Trilateral Contact Group as Ukraine is interested in the ceasefire and provision of the stable truce at the front line.
“Russia should express its responsibility for fulfillment of this paragraph of Minsk Agreements,” Podolyak concluded.
Earlier, Head of the President’s Office Andriy Yermak stated that one of the main topics of the meeting between the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky and the President of Russia Volodymyr Putin may be the analysis of the implementation of the agreements of the Normandy Four.
Besides, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky proposed to expand the Normandy format to seven countries. He wants the United States, Canada, and Britain to take part in the talks.
