The work of the Verkhovna Rada on the new law on the special status of Donbas will begin before Normandy Summit. This was announced by the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Dmytro Razumkov during ICTV broadcast.
"But the initiative will be coming out of the President's Office. The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine will join it, and most importantly, the general public will join the process. It will be an open process that will allow leaving as few questions to the future law as possible," the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada noted.
According to him, it is too early to talk about the system by which elections should take place. At the moment, there is not even a draft of the new law on the special status of Donbas, but when the document is drafted, it is not a fact that it will be completely different from the current one. It is important, first of all, that this law corresponds with the interests of the Ukrainian state, the speaker of the Council emphasized.
As for the date of elections in the region, according to Azarov, Zelensky's team believes that voting in Donbas should take place simultaneously with elections in all other regions of Ukraine.
As we reported earlier, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky informed that the law on the special status of Donbas will not be signed at the meeting in Normandy format. The current Law on special status for this region is in effect until December 31, 2019.
