The Ukrainian parliament is suggested to confiscate the possessions of residences of the temporarily occupied territories in Donetsk and Luhansk regions in case they willingly obtain the Russian passports. MP Oleg Musiy filed the bill № 10363.
According to the report, the amendments are suggested to the article 354 Confiscation of the Civil Code of Ukraine. In particular, Ukraine can confiscate the possessions of an adult citizen of Ukraine in case they freely obtain the Russian passport. The court rules the decision, and the Cabinet of Ministers should set the order.
At the same time, confiscated real estate will be passed to village or city councils, and district councils in cities and movable property will be passed to the state's income.
The MP stated that this confiscation could not be regarded as hunting of the residences of the temporarily occupied territories in Donetsk and Luhansk regions, according to the law on Special order of the local government of Donetsk and Luhansk regions.
On April 24, Putin signed a decree according to which the procedure for obtaining Russian citizenship for residents of Donetsk and Luhansk regions is simplified. Applications for entry into the citizenship of the Russian Federation received from residents of occupied Donbas territories, should be considered no more than three months from the date of submission.
President-elect Volodymyr Zelensky stated that Ukraine would grant citizenship to representatives of all peoples suffering from authoritarian and corrupt regimes, and first of all to Russians.
Besides, he said that Russia should not spend their time in vain with their attempts to lure the citizens of Ukraine into getting Russian passports.
Ukraine appealed to the UN Security Council after this decision and Permanent Representative of Ukraine to the UN Volodymyr Yelchenko called it to be the daring step, which contradicts the Minsk Agreements.
