203 cases of the sexual violence, including 43 forcible rapes were spotted at the occupied territories of Donetsk and Luhansk regions since April 2014 as the press service of the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine reported citing the research of UN Monitoring Mission.
It is reported that totally the mobile brigades spotted 11 019 cases of the gender-specific violence and some of them took place long before the beginning of the conflict. The ministry specifies that only the cases that occurred after April 1, 2014, became the scope of the analysis because exactly these cases can have the connection to the armed conflict.
Also, it is reported that the number of the cases of the sexual abuse increased all over Ukraine.
‘The number of the call to the helpline of ‘La Strada Ukraine’ in 2016 increased in four times in comparison with 2015. Totally there are 38 547 phone calls from all regions of Ukraine and 2.5% of them concerned the sexual violence’, the ministry added.
The OSCE observer was sexually harassed at the rifle point of the pro-Russian militaries of the Donetsk People’s Republic at the territory of Donetsk region uncontrolled by Ukraine on May 5.
Head of OSCE Mission Apakan urged the leaders of the occupied Donbas to investigate the incident with the sexual harassment towards OSCE patrol.
