The United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) claimed that the mined territory in Donbas threatens lives of 220 000 children that live near the regions polluted with the explosives as DW reported.

‘It is unacceptable that the places where the children could safely play four years ago are full of the deadly explosives’, Giovanna Barberis, the UNICEF Representative to Ukraine claimed.

She emphasized that all sides of the Donbas Conflict should immediately stop to use this kind of the weapon.

The Fund points that according to the statistics, every week one child becomes the victim of the combat actions in Donbas since the beginning of 2017.

The explosives are the consequence of the war, the armaments did not blow up and it is the most expanded reason for the death or wound of the children or two-thirds of all cases. A lot of children become disabled for the rest of the life in the result of the explosions.

Earlier UN reported that occupied Donbas remains to be one of the most mined regions in the world.
