It is quite possible that combat activity in Donbas could rapidly toughen due to winter temperatures. Alexander Hug, the Deputy Head of the OSCE Special Mission in Donbas said that in his interview with German media – as quoted by DW.

‘When the ground freezes, it will be easier to move the heavy weaponry’, he said.

Hug mentioned that over the last several weeks, the number of ceasefire violations grew considerably.  ‘In certain points of the division line, which makes almost 500 kilometers, the warring sides can literally see each other. Tanks and artillery are used again and again,’ he said.
