Russian-backed militants use laser gun, Ukraine's border guard gets retinal burn

A Ukrainian border guard got a retinal burn after the militants used laser gun in Donbas conflict zone, as Oleg Slobodyan, the Spokesperson of Ukraine’s State Border Guard Service, wrote on Facebook.

“Yesterday, at around 5 pm, a border guard of Kramatorsk unit, who was carrying out a task within the Joint Forces Operation, optical surveillance near Marinka, got a retinal burn as a result of a flash of an unknown origin. The source of the flash is located on the temporarily occupied territory. The preliminary diagnosis is thermal retinal burn,” the message says.

It was noted that the soldier was hospitalized. The diagnosis is confirmed. According to the doctors, the loss of vision in the right eye is 80%.

Reportedly, it is the fifth case when the border guards in the Joint Forces Operation zone in Donbas sustain injuries of the visual organs as a result of laser gun effect.
