On January 18, the day of Trilateral Contact Group meeting in Minsk, militants plan to shell their own positions and residential areas of villages on both sides of the line of demarcation using heavy weapons - both in controlled by Ukraine and occupied territories. This was reported by Ukraine’s Army HQ press center.
"The enemy plans to attack their own positions and residential areas of towns and villages in both the controlled by Ukraine and occupied territories," the report said.
According to operative information, such plans of militants on the day of negotiations in Minsk are aimed at not only discrediting Ukraine and its Armed Forces in the eyes of the world community, but also to spark off hatred of the civilian population of temporarily occupied territories. It also shows their interest in further escalation of the conflict.
As it was reported earlier, on Thursday, January 18, the first in 2018 Trilateral Contact Group meeting is held in Minsk.
Earlier Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko met with representatives of Ukraine in the Trilateral Contact Group and discussed the tasks for 2018. Poroshenko thanked the representatives of Ukraine in the TCG for defending national interests and for the professional and dedicated work in order to restore the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine.
The Trilateral Contact Group on Donbas agreed on a new ceasefire regime in the zone of the armed Donbas Conflict since the midnight of December 23. Darka Olifer, the spokeswoman of Leonid Kuchma said that the partakers of the meeting confirmed the intention to fulfill the commitments on the release of the prisoners until Christmas and New Year’s holidays.
