Militant of occupied Donetsk sentenced to 10 years in jail

The militant did not plead guilty during the court sessions

Artemivsky City District Court of Donetsk region delivered the verdict to a militant of self-proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR) who fought against Ukraine’s Armed Forces as the prosecutor’s office of Donetsk region reported.

In July 2014, a 23-year-old accused entered the composition of the detached artillery brigade Kalmius of the so-called Defense Ministry of DPR and participated in the armed conflict with Ukrainian military.

In February 2019, the Armed Forces of Ukraine wounded him and detained the militant. During the court sessions, the accused did not plead guilty and pretended to be a civilian. He stated that he came across the checkpoint of the Armed Forces of Ukraine accidentally in the dark.

As a result, the court found the militant guilty in the commitment of the serious crime against his state and delivered the conviction to the men in the form of 10 years imprisonment with the confiscation of the property.

Earlier Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) detained former militant of the so-called Zorya Battalion of “Luhansk People’s Republic” when he was crossing the contact line in Donetsk region. 

Besides, the officers of the National Guard detained a citizen of Luhansk who turned out to be involved in the activity of the illegal armed formation Mir Luganshchyne (Peace to Luhansk region) приговорили
