Merkel, Macron demand from Russia to take commitment on stable ceasefire regime in Donbas

President of France Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Angela Merkel offered the solutions for the situation observed in the Donbas Conflict zone during the joint video-conference with Russian President Vladimir Putin, as the Élysée Palace reported.

“The necessity was underlined that Russia should take firm responsibility on stabilization of the ceasefire regime in Ukraine and development of the ways for emerging from the crisis in accordance with the Minsk Agreements,” the message said.

Besides, the German Chancellor and French President offered to hold talks in Normandy Format.

As we reported, President Volodymyr Zelensky announced the preparation of the Normandy Format meeting. However, in case it does not take place, the leader of the state will find another format of the talks with each side.

On March 18, Head of the President’s Office Andriy Yermak offered during the meeting of the political advisers of the countries of Normandy Format to adopt at this level the joint statement on the return to comprehensive ceasefire regime in Donbas that was established on July 27, 2020.

On March 29, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky stated he intends to initiate negotiations with the leaders of the Normandy format member states regarding the aggravation of the situation in Donbas, where the number of cases of opening fire has significantly increased since the beginning of the year.
