Ukraine's representative in Minsk talks group Leonid Kuchma is a respected and experienced official. However, when searching for the ways to solve the crisis in Donbas, President Volodymyr Zelensky's position is more essential. Dmitriy Peskov, the spokesman of the Russian president Putin said that as quoted by RIA Novosti.
'Kuchma by himself is quite an authoritative official; he's experienced and well aware of this topic, and the solid position of the head of the state is crucial', Peskov told the press.
President Zelensky admitted he planned to resume the negotiations regarding the Joint Forces Operation in the Normandy Format and unblock the Minsk process. The first session is to take place June 5; the Ukrainian side will claim its key positions on how to solve the conflict in Donbas.
'We don't have a lot of time to stop the war and continue Minsk [process]; I want these offers to be unified by the clear deadlines of completion of this or that point', he said.
As Zelensky's press office reported, the leader of the state met with the members of the Ukrainian delegation in the Minsk group. The officials discussed the ways to speed up the negotiation process and the necessary steps for that to happen. Among them was Kuchma who stated he would insist on the ceasefire during the harvest time in summer.
Previously, Kuchma withdrew from the Minsk talks group due to his solid age; in August 2018, he had turned 80.
