Pavlo Klimkin, the Foreign Minister of Ukraine expressed the confidence that it is impossible to withdraw the occupation authority from Donbas without the deployment of the UN peacekeepers as ICTV broadcasted.
‘I sincerely think that if we do not deploy the international element in Donbas that it will be impossible to withdraw the occupation administration. We need two things for this: the first one is the permission of the president of Russia and the second is the way of the deployment of the peacekeepers to make it work. There will be no progress without this’, he said.
According to Klimkin, the Ukrainian side thinks that the mission should cover the whole occupied territory the minimal level of the security should be provided. He specified that it will take six to nine months for the staged deployment of the mission.
Earlier Anders Fogh Rasmussen, the former NATO head, adviser to the president of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko expressed the opinion that with the help of sanctions, it is possible to force the Russian Federation to show flexibility in the issue of the UN peacekeeping mission in Donbas. Poroshenko claimed that currently, Russia has a chance to show some readiness for consensus and agree to UN peacekeepers.
As it was reported earlier the draft resolution of Russia, which provides for the deployment of peacekeepers in Donbas only along the line of conflict, is unacceptable for the United States and the United Nations, since it will not guarantee security, but will deepen the conflict. Special Representative of the United States for Ukraine Kurt Volker stated this.
