How State Emergency Service helps civilians in Avdiivka under attacks

The situation in Avdiivka, Donetsk region, remains daunting, but it is fully controlled today. Due to the constant bombardment by the Russian terrorists Avdiivka Coke Chemical Plant and Donetsk filtering station are disconnected from the power supply, which leaves 22 000 citizens without centralized water and heat supply.

The temperature in apartments is maintained at 12-15 degrees Celsius. To prevent hypothermia and to assist the public functions the SESU organized vital points. There also are settlements for heating in preschool and educational institutions of Avdiivka.

The electricity is absent in the city, but socially important objects of the city - a nursing home and a hospital, - are provided with autonomous power supply means and continue to function normally. Water supply is currently being implemented on schedule - twice a day due to established reserves. The SESU also provides and organizes the public drinking water points.

The State Emergency Service on behalf of the Prime Minister has developed a detailed plan for the evacuation of the population in the case of aggravation of the situation, provided for taking about 12 thousand citizens out of the city at a time. People will be driven to the nearest 10 settlements and adjacent to the Donetsk region in another region. 180 buses that can carry 4 000 passengers each are prepared and kept in readiness for the implementation of a phased evacuation of the population.

In addition, in order to protect the civilian population and to address the priority needs the SESU together with local authorities organized work of 101 hotline number, as well as contact numbers of staff are determined to eliminate the emergency, who works there, in the city itself 24/7. The citizens may apply for evacuation and receive necessary assistance there.
