Russian citizen who headed the so-called Supreme Court of the Donetsk People’s Republic was sentenced to 12 years of imprisonment in absentia, as Andriy Lysenko, the Spokesperson of the Prosecutor’s General Office, wrote on Facebook.
As it was determined during the investigation, convicted Edward Yakubovsky headed the so-called the Supreme Court of the Donetsk People’s Republic since September 2014. It was noted that he is still coordination the work of “judicial system” on the occupied territory.
According to the speaker, the Supreme Court of the Donetsk People’s Republic under his “control” rendered a series of illegal sentences and sentenced several people to death.
There is a soldier, who was taken captive in the so-called Donetsk People’s Republic, among the illegally convicted. He was accused of espionage on behalf of Ukraine and sentenced to 30 years of in the high-security prison.
Selydove District Court justified Yakubovsky in June 2017. The Prosecutor’s Office addressed the Court of Appeal which sentenced the militants to 12 years of imprisonment in absentia on April 26 for the crime under the Criminal Code Ukraine article on the creation or participation in a terrorist group or terrorist organization.
“The 59-years-old terrorists’ accomplice is on the temporarily occupied territory, a special pre-trial investigation was conducted on his case,” Andriy Lysenko wrote.
Donetsk criminal intelligence units exposed more than 2,000 militants in Donetsk region since 2015.
During this time the police detained more than 460 murderers and 500 perpetrators who committed grave bodily harm, solved 350 armed assaults, emanated 38 groupings involved in 183 felonies and extremely serious crimes among which kidnapping, tortures, murders, 2,070 militants were served with charge papers.
