The UN is not likely to reach consensus on the deployment of peackeepers in Donbas any time soon. Antonio Guterres, the UN Secretary General reported that as quoted by Kommersant

"There is a wide variety of opinions about what kind of mandate and what actual role could peacekeeping forces play in Ukraine. It is unlikely that the agreement will be reached in the near future", the official said.

He added that the UN stands for saving of the Normandy format and living up to Minsk agreements.

Last month, Pyotr Ilyichev, head of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs department of international organizations said that the issue of introducing a UN peacekeeping contingent in Donbas was not on the agenda. He added that Russia's main goal was "to get Kyiv to fully and consistently implement the Minsk agreements."

As we reported, considering the fact that the agreements on the comprehensive ceasefire in Donbas reached in July 2020 were violated at the beginning of 2021, while talks in the Normandy Format do not bring a desirable result, Ukraine’s President offered to change the diplomatic approach and enhance the role of the U.S. in the peace process.
