General Staff claims demining of Donbas may take decades

Armed Forces of Ukraine should be prepared for the demining of the occupied territories of Donbas, as this process could take decades. This was stated by the Chief of the General Staff and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Viktor Muzhenko during the meeting with the leadership of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the press service of the Ukrainian Armed Forces reported.

"Mine clearance after liberation of the presently occupied Donbas can last decades, so the Armed Forces of Ukraine should be prepared for such work," he said.

According to him, these terms should be taken into account and authorities must pay attention to the correct number of military engineers. "This military specialty will be in high demand," Muzhenko added.

He noted that all training centers of engineering troops must complete the acquisition and equipment according to their own staff structure for high-quality training of the number of specialists in various disciplines of military engineering necessary for the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
