The work on a new documentary called EuroDonbas began. The picture is supposed to tell the story of foreigners who founded many cities in Donetsk region; the people who built factories and metal works, turning the region into one of the most developed localities in Europe; and the people who re-wrote this history and deleted it from memory of Ukrainians.
The film is directed by Korniy Hrytsiuk. "Unfortunately, Soviet and post-Soviet myths about heroic workers of Communist industrialization, bandits from Donbas, "residents of special region" are buried deep inside the heads of Donbas residents and people from other parts of Ukraine as well. So I guess it's vital that we open this territory not only for locals, but also change the way that Ukrainian society treats it", he said.
Currently, the team is working on the dramatic structure of the film, collecting archive materials, photos and family stories.
"We're still collecting information in Ukraine's archives and other countries, preparing for the shooting, and we hope we'll be able to find our real heroes. So far, we don't reveal our cards, but we hope we'll be able to learn more about our own country and its history", reads the message on the project's page on Facebook.
