The so-called Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR) threatened to take the mobile network of the ‘Vodafone-Ukraine’ under the external control. Oleksandr Zakharchenko, the leader of the pro-Russian militants claimed this according to his website.
‘Kyiv stopped the work of the mobile network operator ‘Vodafone’ in the territory of DPR. Hundreds of the thousands of the citizens were left without the communication with the friends and relatives over the demarcation line. I want to assure that we will respond to this challenge and the proper actions take place. We can take the network under the external control’, he said.
Viktoria Ruban, the Head of Operator Detachment for Public Relations claimed that the mobile operator asks for the access of the maintenance crew to the occupied territory.
‘We appeal to all responsible, including the Ukrainian administration of Luhansk and Donetsk regions, the Joint Center for Coordination and Control, the OSCE SMM and ask to allow our maintenance crew to enter the grey zone and repair the damaged line. But there are no results. I hope we will be heard soon’, Ruban said at Facebook.
The problems with the mobile network were first reported in the afternoon of January 11; militants of the so-called DPR said it was due to a sabotage act committed by Ukrainian troops. As of Monday morning, the communication in Talove is still down.'
