Law on the reintegration of Donbas, officially named "On the peculiarities of the state policy on ensuring the state sovereignty of Ukraine over the temporarily occupied territories in Donetsk and Luhansk regions”, takes its force today, on October 10. The law prolongs the special status of separate areas in Donetsk and Luhansk regions. The document is published in a parliamentary newspaper Golos Ukrainy (’The Voice of Ukraine’, - 112 International),
The law defines the legal regime of certain parts of Donetsk and Luhansk regions as the temporarily occupied territory of Ukraine. It also introduces the term “Russian occupational power” into Ukrainian legislation, thus stating Ukraine is defending its territory - an essential condition for the deployment of UN peacekeepers.
According to the document, the law enters its force since the day of publication. This document introduces amendments to the law on special order of local governance in separate areas in Donetsk and Luhansk regions as of 2014. Namely, the article 1 in a new wording stipulates for prolongation of the specific order of local governance in separate areas in Donetsk and Luhansk regions for another year.
