Militants illegally detain 251 Ukrainians in the temporarily occupied territories of Donetsk and Luhansk regions. This was stated by the Ukrainian ombudsman Lyudmila Denisova on her Facebook page.

"Currently, 251 citizens of Ukraine remain in the torture chambers of the occupiers in the temporarily occupied territories of Donetsk and Luhansk regions. Their release is the most important task of all competent bodies that are involved in this process," she wrote.

It was noted that 76 Ukrainians had been released in December 2019 as part of the previous exchange of detainees.

As we reported earlier, according to the representative of the Ukrainian delegation to the Tripartite Contact Group Serhiy Garmash, Donbas militants block the potential exchange of prisoners by making unrealistic demands that cannot be met.

"We cannot legally clear them without their desire or presence, and their wishes and whereabouts are unknown not only to us but also to their lawyers. The other party knows this but uses it as an excuse to prevent the potential exchange," he wrote.
