Leader of the self-proclaimed DPR, Donetsk People’s Republic, officially set the status of the state border. Alexandr Zakharchenko’s order puts the border along the division line between Ukraine and the territory controlled by the pro-Kremlin militants.
The same document bans individuals from crossing the border otherwise than through checkpoints. Citizens will have to complete registration procedure at border control office in order to proceed, DPR’s Ministry for State Security said.
Ukraine defines the territories ran by Russia-backed militants as the temporarily occupied areas. The government does not recognize the self-proclaimed authorities of the DPR and LPR, the pro-Kremlin organizations in eastern Ukraine.
