The fire density in the war-affected Donbas has increased lately; on May 22, Russian militants attacked Ukrainian positions 49 times. As is known, that resulted in the death of a Ukrainian serviceman and injuries of another three. On Tuesday evening, the situation somewhat complicated, as the enemy attacked the residential area in Talakivka and Mariinka. A sniper opened fire in the residential quarter of Mariinka, killing a local resident.
According to Dmytro Hutsulyak, Ukraine's defense ministry spokesman, fights occurred in Luhansk region (Stanytsia Luhanska, Troitske, Travneve, Pivdenne, Novozvanivka, Luhanske and Zaitsevo), where the enemy used under-barrel grenade launchers, heavy machineguns and small arms.
Most of the activity, however, is currently concentrated in Donetsk region, Hutsulyak said. 82 and 120 mm mines hit Opytne, Avdiivka and Novoselivka II. Talakivka came under intense artillery fire; the Ukrainian military reports no casualties among civilians. 152 mm shells hit Ukrainian positions near Bohdanivka.
