Since the beginning of the year, some 80 Ukrainian soldiers deceased and over 560 were wounded in Donbas combat zone. Lieutenant General Anatoliy Petrenko said that as quoted by the press service of Ukraine's defense ministry.
He added that the peacekeeping operation in support of Minsk agreements is absolutely logical initiative because people keep dying in Donbas.
'Minsk agreements were signed in 2014-2015. We still observe the use of large caliber weaponry and drones, the mining of territories, and people die because of the mines. The civilian infrastructure gets destroyed, Russian troops stay on our territory. It's all neglected...', he said.
According to him, the stable ceasefire and troops withdrawal may be reached through the enforcement of the international component of pressure on Russia. The official added that all provision of Minsk agreement, including the holding of the fair local elections, economic and humanitarian restoration of Donbas, can be implemented through peacekeeping operation under the aegis of the UN. 'But there's an important condition: there should be no Russians in the peacekeeping mission; there should be no Russian military in Donbas', he stressed.
