Militants of self-proclaimed 'Donetsk People's Republic' (DNR) detained Yuriy Shapoval, the resident of Donetsk and citizen of Ukraine. According to the so-called 'Ministry of State Security', the man is suspected of 'espionage in favor of Ukraine'.

The non-recognized authority reported that since 2014 until recently, Shapovalov has been leading a Twitter account, where he posted pieces of information regarding the military infrastructure, locations of troops and vehicles of the 'armed forces of DNR', which 'contributed to the destabilization of the political situation in the republic'.

The militants also found out that the man made this information public deliberately since he was recruited by Ukraine's Armed Forces in summer 2015.

'In spite of his espionage activities, he did not clearly understand the full amount of responsibility that he faced, since the Ukrainian special services assured his such actions would not out him in danger,' the message said.

Shapovalov is now held in custody. Under the current law of the self-styled republic, the man might face from twelve to twenty years behind the bars.
