On January 13, for the first time during the New Year-Christmas truce, the militants used artillery in the Donbas conflict zone. This was reported in the press center of the anti-terrorist operation headquarters on Facebook.
"In Donetsk direction, for almost an hour, enemy conducted shelling from grenade launchers, 120-mm mortar shells and artillery systems of 122-mm caliber at Ukrainian forces strongholds on the outskirts of Vodyane. In Pavlopil region, illegal armed formations fired our defenders from heavy mortars," the report said.
It is noted that of the 120-mm mortar shells and grenade launchers the enemy fired near Butivka mine, and also attacked Ukrainian positions in the Kamyanka area from small arms and 82-mm caliber mortars. Also, from grenade launchers of various types and small arms militants violated the truce near Verkhnyotoretske.
In the Luhansk direction, according to the headquarters, militants fired from small arms and mortars of 82-mm caliber Ukrainian positions in Novoluhansk area.
It is noted that from midnight until 18:00 on January 13, militants violated the truce 6 times. The Ukrainian military once opened fire in response.
