Illegal armed groups in Donbas conflict area shelled Ukrainian positions six times since the beginning of the day on February 16. None of the Ukrainian soldiers were injured as a result of militants’ attacks. This was reported by Ukraine’s Army HQ press center in Facebook.
It is noted that in Luhansk sector, the militants repeatedly fired at Ukrainian strong points near Luhanske from mortars of 82-mm caliber, grenade launchers of various types and heavy machine guns.
"The enemy shelled the defenders of Zalizne from grenade launchers and large-caliber machine guns," the message said.
In Donetsk area, according to the headquarters, illegal armed formations violated the truce near Taramchuk using small arms, machine guns.
As it was reported earlier the release of prisoners of war and deployment of UN peacekeepers in Donbas were the key topics of negotiation between Pavlo Klimkin and Sergei Lavrov, foreign ministers of Ukraine and Russia. The officials met in Munich.
According to Klimkin, the talks proved mostly fruitless. 'I asked the Russian side to apply significant pressure on the occupant authorities so that they do not violate the basic principles of humanity. We talked about the full access for the Red Cross workers so that they can get to POWs and administer the necessary aid. We've got to start searching those missing in action, it is our moral duty. Then, we discussed the option to restore the Joint Committee for Control and Coordination, which ceased to function due to the withdrawal of the Russian representatives. We should aim for long-lasting ceasefire', he said.
