On January 5, Russian mercenaries landed five attacks on positions of Ukrainian troops in Donbas. Two Ukrainian servicemen deceased, and another one sustained a combat wound after stepping on a landmine. Joint Forces Operation HQ reported that on Facebook.

An accident also occurred near Khutir Vilny settlement in Luhansk region. The Ukrainian military's GAZ-66 cargo vehicle drove on a landmine, which resulted in an explosion. One Ukrainian soldier deceased, and another one was wounded.

In Donetsk region, the enemy conducted three attacks. In Vodyane, militants fired eight 82 mm mines; near Pavlopol, they opened fire from heavy machine guns, and in Hnutove, they fired grenade launchers and small arms.

In Luhansk region, the enemy opened fire once; a sniper attack was reported near Krymske.
