Earlier, we reported that Russian-backed separatists called off a protest outside a hotel in eastern Ukraine housing international conflict monitors. It ended a blockade sparked by the capture of a separatist officer by Ukrainian government forces, Reuters reports.

Monitors from the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) had been confined to their hotel in the separatist-held city of Donetsk for more than a week and had to suspend their patrolling mission.

It was one of several instances of the OSCE, Europe's main security watchdog, being blocked from operating since the capture of the separatist officer on October 13. The separatists had demanded help from the OSCE to secure his release.
