The head of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people and People's Deputy of Ukraine Refat Chubarov proposed to close the representation of the Russian Agency for CIS Rossotrudnichestvo, associated with it organizations and all Russian state structures in the country. He said this at a press conference, Radio Liberty reports.
"I say that our indecision in some spheres is, if not the main, one of the reasons that Russia is cruelly abusing our citizens ... And next week I will ask my colleagues: why do we have here, in Ukraine, Rossotrudnichestvo and its affiliated organizations? "Chubarov said.
He addressed his question to Foreign Ministry of Ukraine, linking it with the fact that Crimean Tatars in Crimea "are already being eliminated not by one, but by whole groups."
Chubarov intends to go to the country's Cabinet of Ministers and, if necessary, to politicians to seek support for these initiatives.
As it was reported earlier Amnesty International human rights activists demanded to cancel Umerov's verdict. Conviction of one of the leaders of Crimean Tatar people is an encroachment on fundamental rights and freedoms on the peninsula.
The sentencing of Ilmi Umerov, who is 60 and has Parkinson’s disease, marks yet another stage in the de facto government’s lengthy persecution of him. His imprisonment follows a series of politically-motivated trials, arbitrary arrests and intimidation against critics of Russian authorities in Crimea. It is a clear violation of freedom of expression,” said Oksana Pokalchuk, Director of Amnesty International Ukraine.
