US Department of State continues to provide Ukraine with military assistance and there are no policy changes, said John Kirby, US Department of State spokesperson.
Kirby confirmed that US Department are aware of reports that Chechen fighters and other Islamist extremists stay in Ukraine to fight against pro-Russian militants in Donbas. He voiced that there were long talks to Ukrainian authorities about the military organization of its volunteer and militia forces.
"We’ve seen these reports. And what I would say... that we’ve long talked to Ukrainian authorities about the composition and the makeup of volunteer and/or militia forces that are in Ukraine, and we’ve certainly provided our counsel with respect to how adequate organization, command and control, and that kind of thing should be done" - said Kirby.
A few days ago the New York times wrote that the nationalist Right Sector of Ukrainian militia subordinates the Sheikh Mansur group of in Donbas - Chechens, who fight against pro-Russian militants on Ukrainian side. However, neither the Sheikh Mansur group nor Right Sector, and the Ukrainian authorities decline to say how many Chechens are fighting in eastern Ukraine.
