68 civilians killed, 315 injured in Donbas in 2017

OSCE reported 88 deaths of civilians in Donbas last year

Since the beginning of 2017, as a result of the conflict, 68 civilians in Donbas were killed, 315 were injured. This was reported by the head of the OSCE SMM in Ukraine, Ertugrul Apakan, said on the OSCE's Facebook page.

"The ambassador stressed that civilians continue to suffer in 2017 because of the conflict. The SMM has already confirmed 383 civilian casualties: 68 dead and 315 wounded," the OSCE said.

In addition, in 2016 as a result of the conflict in Donbas, 88 civilians were killed, 354 were wounded.

"According to the confirmed SMM data, in 2016 in Donetsk and Luhansk regions 442 cases of civilian casualties were reported: 88 dead and 354 wounded, mostly in the Donetsk region," the report says.

Also, according to the reports, 116 military and law enforcement officers, 12 volunteers and 282 civilians disappeared in Donbas.
Earlier OSCE Chairman-in-Office and Austrian Foreign Minister Sebastian Kurz welcomed the talks between Russian President Vladimir Putin and German Chancellor Angela Merkel to strengthen the protection of the OSCE Special Monitoring Mission (SMM) in Ukraine. The diplomat wrote this on his Twitter page.

“Initiatives, including by the UN, to increase security of SMM monitors are crucial,” Kurz noted.

“Welcome talks between Chancellor Merkel and President Putin on improving safety of OSCE SMM in Ukraine,” he also wrote.
