600 thousand people may be left without heat and electricity on Christmas. This was reported during the briefing by the first deputy of the OSCE Special Monitoring Mission (SMM in Ukraine, Alexander Hug.
"There is a possibility that 600 thousand people in Luhansk region on both sides of the demarcation line will celebrate New Year holidays without electricity and heating. Electricity and heating of their homes depends on who pays the bills for electricity, which is used to enable water stations work in the region. These bills were paid by the ICRC for the last two months. If the competent authorities do not intervene, the stations will stop. Due to the economic collapse, people will face a threat to celebrate Christmas in cold and darkness,” he said.
As reported earlier, in October and November the International Committee of Red Cross (ICRC) decided to pay the bills for electricity, which is essential for water stations in the region, so that people were not left without water, and officials from Kyiv and representatives of the "republic" had enough time to negotiate and resolve the issue. However, the parties have not agreed on the payment of the corresponding invoices.
