Currently, 294 people are considered missing in action in the combat area in Donbas. Iryna Gerashchenko, the Parliamentary Vice Speaker said this referring to the data released by Ukraine's SBU, the state security service.

'While negotiating in Minsk, we use the list compiled by the Joint Centre of the SBU, which includes the hostages and those missing in action. As of today, the list includes 294 people; among them, there are many civilians', she said.

The official added that by the estimates of the Red Cross, over 1,000 dead bodies remain unidentified.

Gerashchenko also said that in 2017, 71 bodies from the combat area were identified, 18 of them were handed over to the temporarily occupied territory of Donbas. In February 2018, the remains of two Russian citizens were passed to Russian representatives.

The Vice Speaker of the Ukrainian Parliament stressed that the International Committee of the Red Cross has only limited access to the occupied territories; they were never allowed into penal colonies in Russia or the mentioned territories in Donetsk and Luhansk regions. where Ukrainian citizens are held.
