About 10,000 civilians sustained injuries in the combat area

About 2,500 civilians died and up to 10,000 sustained injuries since the beginning of the Donbas Conflict as Interfax-Ukraine reported citing Ukraine’s Defense Ministry official Maksym Komisarov.

“According to the present information, at least 2,500 civilians died during the conflict. 2,400 of the victims are adults and, unfortunately, 242 are children,” Komisarov said.

According to him, the total amount of the civilians who were injured due to the conflict is estimated at the level of 10,000, including 2,000 children.

Komissarov noted that the main reasons for the defeat of the civilians are the mines, ammunition and other explosive items. It makes about 30-35% of all cases of injuries and deaths of the civilians.

As of December 31, 2018, from 40,000 up to 43,000 people became victims of Donbas conflict. Totally, 25-26% of the victims are civilians.

According to the data from UN Human Rights Monitoring Mission, from 12,800 up to 13,000 people died since the beginning of Donbas conflict in April 2014.
