24 hours in Donbas: Five Ukrainian servicemen perished, seven wounded

Over August 23, fierce military actions in Donbas claimed lives of five Ukrainian warriors. This is mentioned in the message by the HQ of the Joint Forces Operation.

'Russian occupant forces violated the ceasefire 12 times. Four attacks involved the use of artillery and mortars. In the course of military actions, five Ukrainian defenders deceased, another seven servicemen sustained combat wounds,' the message says.

The enemy opened adjusted fire from 122 mm artillery, 82 mm and 120 mm mortars, IFV guns, grenade launcher,s heavy machineguns and small arms. Krymske, Novotoshkivske, Zalizne, Novhorodske, Avdiivka, Pisky, Krasnohorivka, Hnutove, Lebedynske came under fire.

As Ukrainian troops returned fire, they destroyed twelve enemy soldiers and wounded another 17.

Earlier, the Defense Ministry of Ukraine reported that five Ukrainian soldiers died in the result of the five-hour fight in Donbas. Dmytro Hutsuliak, the spokesperson of the Defense Ministry of Ukraine claimed this as 112.ua reported. "About 6:00 a.m. an enemy approached the forward position of one of the mechanized brigades near Krymske under the cover of the artillery and mortar fire and attempted to seize the observation posts along the Bakhmut highway. The command of the brigade used the reserves to respond the attack and fire defeat was inflicted. As a result, the attack of the enemy was repulsed. The casualties of the enemy are specified,"  Hutsuliak reported.
