2017 was the cruelest year for the citizens of Donbas. Kurt Volker, the US Special Envoy to Ukraine claimed this at the Atlantic Council conference as Voice of America reported.

Volker noted that the humanitarian situation in Donbas is the worst during the last three years. He added that Russia can make the end to it this if it fulfills the Minsk Agreements.

Earlier UN reported that at least 2 523 civilians died since the beginning of the armed Donbas Conflict (April 14, 2014 – November 15, 2017). According to the information, there are 1399 men, 837 women, 91 boys, 47 girls and 149 unidentified people among the perished. Also, 298 civilians that died in the result of the MH17 plane crash were included in this list.

Moreover, since the beginning of the year, 39 children have been killed or injured in the area of the Anti-Terrorist Operation (ATO) in occupied Donbas.

Also, the UN reported on 161 victims of armed conflict among the civilian population: 26 people were killed and 135 people were wounded (a little more than a half of all cases are related to shelling).
