12 civilians died in Donbas conflict zone between November 16, 2017 and February 15, 2018. 61 were injured. The Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights informs in its report on the human rights situation in Ukraine.
The cause of most of civilian casualties is the result of shelling and light weapons fire. Two died and 38 injured suffered from mortar launchers, self-propelled guns and multiple artillery rocket system. One more civilian died and six were wounded as a result of small arms use.
As a comparison, according to the previous report on the period from August 16 to November 15, 2017, 15 civilian casualties and 72 injured were documented. Two of them died, 22 were injured because of firing and small arms.
Documented civilian casualties reflect a 16% decrease compared with the previous reporting period thanks to the decrease of the number of died and injured as a result of the incidents related to shells and unexploded shells. However, the number of died and injured from firing increased by 66,7%.
The report comprises the following information: two civilians died and 33 were injured as a result of firings of the territory controlled by the militants. One person died and 11 were wounded as a result of firings and small arms use in the regions controlled by Kyiv.
