34 766 people were killed and wounded in the Donbas in the period from April 14, 2014 to August 15, 2017 as a result of the war. This is stated in the report of the UN Monitoring Mission on Human Rights in Ukraine.
"OHCHR (Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights) recorded 34,766 victims among the civilian population, Ukrainian Army and members of armed groups due to the conflict, including 10,225 killed and 24,541 wounded from April 14, 2014 to August 15, 2017", the report says.
Between May 16 and August 15, 2017, the administration documented 161 victims of armed conflict among the civilian population: 26 people were killed and 135 people were wounded (a little more than a half of all cases are related to shelling).
From May to June, the total monthly number of civilian casualties declined and this tendency continued in the period from June to July. This partially is due to the so-called "harvest" truce, which began on June 24.
For the entire period of the conflict, from April 14, 2014 till August 15, 2017, at least 2,505 civilians were killed.
In addition, 298 civilians, including 80 children, were killed as a result of the downing of the MH17 aircraft on July 17, 2014. The total number of civilians who were injured in connection with the conflict is estimated from 7 to 9 thousand.
As it was reported earlier 55 Ukrainian soldiers were killed, 269 were wounded over summer in Donbas. The Ukrainian Army suffered most losses in June, least – in August.
